In 1991 we were at a dog show with our 1st show dog, Brook, a Golden Retriever.  It was there that Kathy saw a 13” in the group, and stated that she wanted a Beagle to show.  That was how Kountry Beagles began…

Early in 1993 we purchased our first beagle “Kasey”, who later became our first champion, Ch. Vance All That Glitters.  She bounced off the plane early that year and never stopped until she passed

away 14 years later.  Kasey taught us everything she felt we needed to know about beagles and made sure we were well trained right until the end.  She was the beginning of what some might call an addiction, but we consider it a love.  Since that time we have never been without a beagle and cannot ever imagine being without one.

We have owned and bred many champions, multiple Best in Specialty Show and Group Winning Dogs.  Among those are BIS / BISS Ch. Kountry’s Trail Blazer, top 13” male in 2001 & 2002, BISS Ch. Kountry’s White Lightning and BISS Ch. Kountry’s Sir Beauregard the top 15” beagle in 2002 and Best of Breed Winner at Westminister.

More recently and on another front “Kari”, Ch. Kountry’s Kari Me Away became our first movie star starring in the children’s classic Shilo 3 — Saving Shiloh.

Although we love to show and are very proud of what our dogs have accomplished, pretty ribbons, titles and movies stars are not what are most important to us.  We strive everyday to raise healthy well adjusted dogs.

This starts from the day the puppies are born and does not end until each one leaves for a new home or spends there senior years snoozing on the couch.  Each beagle is a treasured member of the family and each one gets regular time indoors with the family as well as being socialized with other animals and children.  Although you may hear other philosophies  there’s nothing more precious than a beagle puppy with their child.

Additionally we entered into a partnership with Esther Tomatis of Lothan Kennels.  She brings with her more than 40 years of beagle knowledge, and through our joint commitment to the breed we have been able to produce many more champions and ranked dogs such as Ch. Lothan’s Good Golly Moses, Ch. Lothan’s Kountry Cassanova and most recently Ch. Kountry-Lothan’s The Winning Code.

Of those dogs that we choose to show they are all breeder-owner handled by Karen Means or Erin Hines.
