In 1991 we were at a dog show with our 1^st show dog, Brook, a Golden Retriever.  It was there that Kathy saw a 13” in the group, and stated that she wanted a Beagle to show.  That was how Kountry Beagles began…

 

After that show I began researching beagles.  We were in search of the perfect tri-colored bitch.  I wanted a dog with a wonderful temperament, excellent conformation and health, which had the attitude to excel in the ring, and still looked and acted very much like a hound.

I began reading every book and magazine there was on the breed, and watched every issue of the dog show magazines for beagles that might catch our eye.  Then one afternoon while flipping through the pages of the Chronicle we spotted a dog that struck our eye.  He was Ch. Chardon Obstrusive O.J. bred by Dr. & Mrs. Kitchell and owned by Carolyn Vance.  After a number of phone conversations with Carolyn she agreed

to sell us a puppy out of a breeding that she had planned to Ch. Chardon Varsity Performer.  It had been about 6 months since my first contact to Carolyn when we were

notified that the only female puppy in the litter had died during the delivery.   We were heartbroken, but waited until she repeated the breeding.  It was from that repeat breeding that we got “Kasey”, Ch. Vance All That Glitters who bounced off the plane in early 1993 and never stopped.  She was our first beagle and our first champion (completely owner handled).

 

With a lot of hard work, dedication, luck, and an enormous amount of support, advice and encouragement from Phil Baffert of Alamo Beagles we developed a kennel we can be proud of. 

 

We have owned and bred many champions, multiple Best in Specialty Show and Group Winning Dogs.  Among those are BIS / BISS Ch. Kountry’s Trail Blazer and BISS Ch. Kountry’s Sir Beauregard the top 15” beagle in 2002.  Many of our champions have been breeder/owner handled.

 

More recently and on another front “Kari”, Ch. Kountry’s Kari Me Away became our first movie star starring in the childrens classic Shilo 3 — Saving Shiloh.
